Additional information

LiFePO4 lithium battery, 12.8 V, for campervans, motorhomes and boats. You use 95 % of its rated capacity without damaging it, where a lead-acid or gel battery stops at half. Three capacities — 100 Ah, 200 Ah and 314 Ah — all with Bluetooth monitoring and ECE R10 vehicle approval.

Choosing the right capacity

Size the battery on a typical day's consumption, not on the size of the van. Allow roughly 30 to 50 Ah a day for a compressor fridge, 10 to 20 Ah for lighting and device charging, 5 to 15 Ah for a diesel heater, and plan for two days without sun.

Your use Model Energy
Weekends and holidays: LED lighting, device charging, water pump, small fridge 100 Ah 1,280 Wh
Regular life on board: compressor fridge running daily, heater, pump, lighting, small inverter 200 Ah 2,560 Wh
Full-time living: remote work, 2,000 W inverter, coffee machine or induction hob 314 Ah 3,840 Wh

If you are hesitating between two capacities, take the larger one: a battery that is rarely pushed hard lasts longer than one drained every day. You can also add a second battery later — the BMS places no limit on how many run in parallel.

Shared by all three models

  • Chemistry: lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4), prismatic cells
  • Nominal voltage: 12.8 V
  • Internal resistance: below 30 mΩ at 50 % state of charge
  • Efficiency: 99 %
  • Self-discharge: 3.5 % per month maximum
  • Strings: up to 4 batteries in series (48 V), unlimited number in parallel
  • Bluetooth monitoring: state of charge, voltage, current and temperature, on all three models
  • Terminals: M8 / M6
  • Case: reinforced ABS, anti-vibration design

Charging

  • Charge voltage: 14.2 to 14.6 V
  • BMS charge cut-off: 14.6 V, i.e. 3.65 V per cell
  • Charge resumes at: 13.8 V
  • Cell balancing: starts at 13.2 V, 200 mA

Discharging

  • Low-voltage disconnect to set on your system: between 11.2 and 12.4 V
  • BMS discharge cut-off: 10 V, i.e. 2.5 V per cell
  • Discharge resumes at: 10.8 V
  • Short-circuit protection: cut-off in under a millisecond

Temperature

  • Discharge: −20 to +60 °C
  • Charge: 0 to +55 °C
  • Storage: −5 to +35 °C

Below 0 °C the BMS blocks charging and only allows it again once the battery warms up: charging a frozen LiFePO4 damages the cells permanently. Discharging still works down to −20 °C, so you keep your power in hard frost.

Approvals

  • ECE R10, 06 series — vehicle approval no. E57*10R06/03*1852*00, accepted across Europe, in Switzerland and in the United Kingdom
  • CE and UN38.3 for the battery, IEC 62133 for the cells
  • Shipping: UN3480, class 9

What you will need for the installation

  • A fuse or circuit breaker rated for the battery's maximum current, fitted as close as possible to the positive terminal.
  • Cables sized on the current your inverter draws, not on the battery's capacity.
  • A DC/DC charger to charge from the alternator. A direct connection provides neither the right charge profile nor current limiting.
  • The LiFePO4 profile on your 230 V charger, solar controller and DC/DC charger: absorption between 14.2 and 14.6 V, never a lead-acid, gel or AGM profile.
  • A proper mounting: strap or bracket. The battery must not move under braking.

If you are starting a system from scratch, our VANPOWER electrical kits bundle the battery, DC/DC charger, MPPT solar controller, 230 V charger, distribution box and protections, with the wiring diagram.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace my lead-acid battery without changing anything else?
Mechanically yes, the terminals are the same format. Electrically, you need to switch your charger, solar controller and DC/DC charger to the LiFePO4 profile: a lead-acid profile charges at the wrong voltage and prevents cell balancing.

What happens if I discharge it too far?
The BMS cuts the discharge at 10 V and restores it at 10.8 V. To never get there, set your system's low-voltage disconnect between 11.2 and 12.4 V.

Can I charge it in winter?
Yes, as long as the battery stays above 0 °C. Below that the BMS blocks charging to protect the cells; discharging still works down to −20 °C.

How many batteries can I combine?
Up to 4 in series, for a 24 V or 48 V system, and as many as you like in parallel. Use identical batteries of the same age, wired symmetrically.

What is the Bluetooth for?
The app shows live state of charge, voltage, the current going in or out, and cell temperature. That is what lets you confirm a system is correctly sized and spot a problem before it becomes a breakdown.

Why is the delivery time different?
A lithium battery is classified UN3480, class 9: it travels as regulated goods, with approved packaging and an approved carrier.
