Compressor Fridge 170L — 12/24V for Van & Motorhome (140×52×49 cm)

A hundred and seventy litres, of which 58 are freezer — twice the frozen storage of the 140 L for the same fridge volume. This is the largest fridge, and the one for people who live in the vehicle full time, shop once a week and want a freezer that holds a real reserve rather than a few days of supplies.

Power and wiring

12 V or 24 V native, wired straight to the distribution box — 62 W, around 30 W in normal use. Plan on a 100 Ah battery as a minimum, and 200 Ah if the van also runs other equipment. Need mains power? Add the 230V to 12V adapter and the fridge keeps running on a campsite hook-up while the battery is left alone.

Clearances to leave around it

It is a built-in unit, so the manufacturer asks for 10 mm above, 5 mm on each side and 59 mm behind, with the bottom never fully blocked. If you cannot free 59 mm at the back, fit an exterior vent grille on the body of the van, opposite the cooling unit: the heat then leaves straight outside and the rear clearance needed comes down. What matters is that the warm air has a way out — boxed in with no outlet, the compressor works harder and cools less well.

Replacing an existing fridge

Sized to take the place of a three-way absorption unit from Thetford, Dometic or Vitrifrigo, and of any fridge of similar dimensions. If the recess takes 145 × 52 × 49 cm — or 140 cm high with the feet off — it fits. A compressor fridge wires straight into 12 V, so replacing a three-way unit means no gas line and no extra installation.

Registration

The CE / R10 (TÜV) certificate covers the electrical equipment requirement for conversion approval in the UK (VCA) and across Europe (e.g. VASP in France, TÜV in Germany, ITV in Spain).

Choosing within the range

• SVR — the low-consumption model, in the same format as the Dometic and Carbest fridges it replaces
• DCR — separate temperature control for the fridge and the freezer
• BCD — matt black finish

If you do not need 58 L of freezer, the 140 L keeps the same fridge volume in a cabinet 17 cm shorter, for less.

Which side should the door open?

The hinge is reversible, left or right. Stand where you will be standing when you use it and put the hinges on the far side, so the open door never comes between you and the shelves.
