Two decisions, and only two.

• 100 Ah — simple use: 12V fridge, lighting, USB charging, weekends away
• 200 Ah — regular use: several days off-grid, several appliances at once including small 230V ones
• 314 Ah — full-time: living in the van and running 230V appliances for long stretches

• No inverter — a fridge, USB and 12V are enough. You can always add an inverter later.
• 600 W — laptop and small low-draw appliances
• 1000 W — one small 230V appliance such as a mini-oven or microwave
• 1500 W — one powerful appliance such as a kettle (~1200 W). 314 Ah battery recommended.
• 2000 W — several appliances at once (coffee machine + microwave). 314 Ah battery recommended.

How to size it: check the wattage on your appliance's label, then take 1.25 to 1.5 times that figure. An 800 W appliance needs a 1000–1200 W inverter.

💡 Good to know: the inverter includes a 20A AC/DC charger and an automatic bypass. Plugged into a mains socket at a campsite, it powers your appliances and recharges the battery at the same time — nothing to switch, nothing to get wrong.

Mains charging: kits without an inverter come with a Victron Blue Smart 15A charger; kits with an inverter use its built-in 20A charger. Either way, you charge from a campsite socket.

VANPOWER SMART or VANPOWER?
Same battery, same Victron solar and alternator charging. The SMART adds phone control of your circuits and a mains charger on kits without an inverter. If you don't need either, the VANPOWER is a bit cheaper.

Do I need the 230V inverter?
Only if you use mains appliances — coffee machine, microwave, induction hob. Otherwise choose "No 230V inverter": the Blue Smart charger still lets you charge from a mains socket, and you can add an inverter later.

Which battery should I choose?
100 Ah for weekends, 200 Ah for regular multi-day use with a small inverter, 314 Ah for full-time van life and/or a large inverter.

What is the automatic bypass?
Plugged into a mains socket, the inverter powers your 230V appliances and recharges the battery in parallel, automatically. No switching, no risk of error.

I need more than 2000 W — induction hob, air conditioning.

Can I add more solar panels later?
Yes, up to 500 W on the supplied Victron MPPT 100/30. Every component can be upgraded or replaced on its own.

Is it road legal?
Yes — ECE R10. It is what conversion approval asks for in the UK (VCA) and across Europe (e.g. VASP in France, TÜV in Germany, ITV in Spain).
